How to use this toolkit

This toolkit has been designed to empower youth, particularly Trans, Queer and Two-Spirit (TQ2S+) youth, to create and carry out their own campaigns. It offers a step-by-step guide to navigating the campaign cycle process, ensuring no one is alone in making the changes needed in our communities. TQ2S+ youth have historically been at the forefront of organizing and advocacy, challenging oppressive systems and demanding equality, justice, and representation. From the Stonewall Riots of 1969, led by Black and Latine/x trans and queer individuals, to more recent efforts such as Transgender Rights, and safe spaces in schools, TQ2S+ youth have continuously demonstrated resilience and leadership in the face of adversity. These movements in turn, highlight the power of collective action in advancing social progress and inspire the creation of this toolkit.

Previous student campaign issues have included the following:

  • Ensuring there are gender neutral bathrooms on campus.

  • Ending violence towards trans and non-binary students on campus.

  • Educating staff and general student body to respect pronouns, names and other gender related identities.

  • Implementing inclusive sexual education in schools.

  • Implementing LGBTQ+ representation in history and social sciences classes

We look forward to supporting you in making positive changes in your community through campaigns.
